I’m super excited to be representing Australia at the ILCA 4 Worlds in Volos, Greece next month with 12 other Australian sailors. This video is from one of my training sessions this week, sailing out of Fremantle Sailing Club, my local club. Thank you to my coach Chris Charlwood for taking the video.
The preparations for my first worlds competition is going well. I have just moved back into the ILCA 4 rig after some time in ILCA 6 so I’m enjoying recalibrating my senses
If you’re not familiar with the different size rigs (sails) for the ILCA (Laser boats) then go to this blog for a brief explanation: https://charlesallentoyn.blog/2023/06/24/the-boat-i-sail-ilca-laser/
Now that it is less than 4 weeks until the event, my preparations I’m going doing a mini training programme starting with boat speed so I can remember all the features of the ILCA 4 and to get my feel back for this rig. And then spending time practicing racing skills so I’m ready for the ILCA 4 World Championship.
I’m very excited. Nearly as excited as my Mum!
I also fundraise for these trips to ease the financial burden a little for Mum. Please know we only ask for help with 50% of the direct costs for me to compete, we don’t include what it costs for Mum to come with me.
Thank you to all our individual donors I am so grateful for your belief in me and also to the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation for my first grant from them to support this Worlds event and Nationals and Sail Melbourne in January 2024.
The current fundraising campaign for Worlds is here and if you’re curious about how we went for the Nationals campaign that is here.
